Building Brotherhood. Healing Lives.

Men Mending Men in the Community is a faith-based support network empowering men through connection, accountability, and growth.

Who We Are

We envision a world where men have the tools, support, and encouragement to lead purposeful lives, contribute positively to their communities, and break generational cycles of hardship and isolation.

Our Story

Men Mending Men in the Community was founded by Bryan Winters, a dedicated community health worker and advocate for men transitioning from incarceration and other life challenges.

After his own journey of transformation following a decade of incarceration, Bryan chose to “struggle” rather than return to his past. He committed himself to helping others find stability and purpose, just as he had worked to do for himself. Since his release in 2013, Bryan has become a single father of four, a homeowner, and a professional who connects individuals re-entering society with vital healthcare and resources.

Through his community work and his role as a circle keeper, he has provided guidance and mentorship to countless men looking for a second chance. Understanding firsthand the barriers that returning citizens face, Bryan envisioned a space where men could find support, accountability, and healing. This vision led to the creation of Men Mending Men in the Community, a movement that fosters brotherhood and provides men with the tools they need to rebuild their lives and their communities.

Today, the organization continues to grow, empowering men to rise above their past and create a future filled with purpose and connection.

Secretary

Avery Shelton

With a background in non-profit fundraising, and business consulting, I've worked alongside organizations and individuals to help bring goals to life for more than 10 years. Through that work, I’ve developed a deep commitment to supporting others in meaningful and practical ways. Through Men Mending Men, I hope to help build spaces where men can grow in their personal, professional, and spiritual lives - especially during times of transition.

Born and raised in Milwaukee, I love this city - its culture, its food, and the calm of the lakefront. I also enjoy too many tings to list, and spending time with friends and family.

Treasurer

Richard Flath

Raised in a Christian home, I’ve been blessed to share over 40 years of marriage with my wife, Valerie. Together, we’ve raised four grown children who continue to walk in faith. I’ve mentored for more than 42 years and have seen God’s hand at work - both, in my business and the lives of my employees. In 2018, I felt a strong calling to volunteer with Partners in Hope, where I’ve had the privilege of mentoring men transitioning out of incarceration. That experience deepened my compassion and affirmed my purpose. Joining Men Mending Men in the Community has been a natural extension of that calling—an opportunity to continue walking alongside others in faith, growth, and healing.

Ministry Director

Mike Yarbrough

I’m a lifelong Milwaukee resident, raised by my parents, Henry and Mildred Yarbrough. A graduate of North Division High School, I studied Elementary Education and Music Theory at UWM. I serve as Associate Pastor at Ebenezer Ministry & Family Worship Center and co-founded All About Increase - a nonprofit focused on empowering underserved youth and families. I enjoy music, cooking, and movies, and I value opportunities to support others in finding their purpose. I’m married to Tristaca Patrick-Yarbrough, father to the late Cory Crosby, and grandfather to Cayden Crosby.
